There’s a family farm in Tennessee where a couple got married. Small wedding, the kind people are calling a micro wedding or an elopement, though those words don’t quite capture what it actually was: intentional, intimate, exactly right for them. The mayor of Nashville came and did the paperwork. The wedding party stood on land that had belonged to the family for generations.

And everyone who was there left with a map of it on their belt.

“This is for my wedding. We are having an elopement/micro ceremony on my family’s farm. We are getting these as gifts for our attendees and officiant.”

— Nora

The moment the buckles were opened. The bride had chosen to give everyone present, wedding party and the mayor of Nashville included, a bronze map buckle engraved with the exact location of the ceremony.

Micro Wedding and Elopement Gift Ideas for the Wedding Party

The bride wanted to give everyone in her wedding party, 9 people, something that would last. Not a monogrammed flask. Not a gift card. Something that meant something about this specific day on this specific piece of land.

She reached out to us with the location: the family farm in Tennessee where the ceremony would be held. We pulled the map data, built a design around the geography of that land, the lake and river system, the road network, the rolling topography of the surrounding countryside, and placed a small engraved heart exactly where they would stand when they said their vows.

The back of each buckle was engraved with the couple’s initials and the date: C+N, 09/06/2025. Every person who received one has the same front: the same map, the same heart, and the same back. A shared record of a shared day.

Each buckle arrived wrapped in tissue paper, in a small linen bag in a jewelry box.

How We Designed the Tennessee Farm Map Buckle

We create different map versions and this is the one that became the final engraving for the buckle.

The location sits in a part of Tennessee where a large lake and river system winds through the landscape in long, irregular fingers, the kind of geography that looks almost organic on a map, like a river that changed its mind several times before settling. Roads cut across the higher ground in the thin lines of a place that’s been lived in and worked for a long time.

We cropped the map to center the ceremony location, with the lake system filling the left side of the buckle face and the road network spreading across the right. The heart sits quietly in the middle of it all, small enough to be subtle, specific enough to mean exactly one thing.

The metal is bronze, which develops a warm patina with wear. These buckles will look different in five years than they do today, and better. That’s the point.

The finished buckle. Bronze with darkened patina, hand finished. The heart marks the exact location of the ceremony on the family farm.

A Gift That Works for Weddings of Any Size

This particular order was for a micro wedding: a small, close group of people who all meant something specific to the couple. But the map buckle works just as well as a groomsmen gift for a larger wedding, a gift from the couple to both sets of parents, or something the bride gives the groom to mark the day.

The location can be anywhere that matters: where they got engaged, where they first met, where they grew up, where they’re building their first home together. The map is generated from real geographic data, so the result is always specific to that exact place, no two buckles from different locations will ever look the same.

The map is always specific to that exact place. No two buckles from different locations will ever look the same.

How to Order a Custom Map Buckle for Your Wedding

You give us a location: a street address, a landmark, a set of coordinates, or just a description of the place and we’ll find it. We generate several map crops so you can see how the geography frames at buckle scale, you choose the layout you prefer, and we send a final design for your approval before anything is made.

The back engraving is included; names, initials, a date, a short phrase, whatever you want the recipient to find when they flip it over. For group orders like this one, we coordinate everything through one contact and ship together or separately depending on what works best.

The entire process typically takes around two weeks from first contact to finished buckles shipped. For wedding orders we recommend reaching out at least a month in advance to leave room for revisions and any timeline flexibility you might need.

Handmade leather belts are available to pair with any buckle if you want to give the complete set.
