Twenty-five years is a long time to keep a tradition alive. For the group behind Boss House, an annual ski trip that’s been running since 2001, the 25th year called for something more than the usual celebration. It called for something phenomenal.
They reached out to us with a request: 13 custom belt buckles, one for each person on the trip, in time for the season. What they had to work with was a name, a year, and a blurry image of a freestyle skier that had been kicking around as an informal logo.
What they got was something they’ll still be wearing in another 25 years.
"This is a group of guys that has been doing an annual ski trip for 25 years. Every year we have some swag, this year I want to do a belt buckle because it's more significant than a hat and I think it will get a ton of usage."

How We Designed the Boss House Custom Belt Buckle
The brief was loose, which is often how the best custom work starts. They knew the name. They knew the year. They had a general sense of the vibe, mountains, action shot of freestyle skier, built to last.
We took a blurry skier image and rebuilt it from scratch, cleaning up the silhouette, sharpening the stance into something that read clearly at buckle scale, and placing him mid-trick above a mountain range that fills the lower two-thirds of the face. The name of the group. "BossHouse" stretches across the top. “est. 2001” sits just below it, small and deliberate. The whole composition is tight, graphic, and confident.

Final design rounds. We developed multiple layout and composition options before arriving at the final.
Stainless Steel vs Bronze: Choosing the Right Metal
We produced samples in both stainless steel and bronze so the group could see how the same design reads in different metals. Stainless has a cool, modern feel, the engraving comes up rich black against a brushed silver field. Bronze is warmer, richer, more aged-feeling, the kind of thing that looks like it’s been around.
Both versions of the Boss House buckle are genuinely beautiful. The client chose bronze.

Custom Group Belt Buckles Finished by Hand
Each of the 13 buckles was prepared, engraved, formed, welded, polished and then finished by hand in our Seattle studio. The backs were personalized with individual engravings: nicknames and a group motto for each member of the group. That’s a detail that tends to matter a lot to people who receive them: the front is the shared identity, the back is theirs alone.
The whole project, from first contact to finished buckles shipped, came together in about two weeks.

Each buckle has the group motto and individual nicknames engraved on the backs, making each one special for each boss.
Why the custom buckle works for your trip
We’ve made buckles for fishing trips, hunting camps, golf tournaments, and corporate retreats. The ones that resonate most share a few things: they reference something specific to the group (a location, a tradition, a running joke, a year), they’re made from real material that ages well, and they’re personal enough that the recipient knows it was made for them specifically, not ordered from a catalog.
A belt buckle is something a person actually wears. It goes with them. It starts conversations. It’s the kind of object that gets pointed to and explained, and that explanation is the story of your trip, your group, your tradition, told over and over again for years.

"Erica — the belts were almost the highlight of the trip. I told the guys our journey together, they loved it and thought you were amazing. Everyone loved them."
— Michael
The front is the shared identity. The back is theirs alone.
If you’ve got an annual trip, a reunion, a milestone season, or a group that’s earned something worth keeping, we’d love to hear about it.
